Tim Allen has admitted that he found kissing Jesse, a fellow Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear, “creepy.”
Buzz and Jesse’s kiss occurs in the final moments of Toy Story 5. After he confessed his feelings for her, she surprised him with a smooch.
Allen, 73, told Us Weekly of the scene, “(It) was creepy!”
He went on to explain, “When I’m doing[Toy Story]I’m literally an 8-year-old kid. That’s the personality I feel in Buzz, he’s an 11-year-old kid. So I’m like, ‘Oh my god, no way am I doing that!?'”
Allen said the thought of watching it with her daughters also made her uncomfortable. The actor is father to Catherine, 36, whom he shares with ex-wife Laura Daybell, and 17-year-old Elizabeth, whom he shares with wife Jane Haiduk.
“Every time there’s a kissing scene, everyone gets really quiet in the room,” he said. “Especially when[Elizabeth]was a little younger. That’s exactly how I reacted[when Buzz kissed Jesse].”
“When I first read it, I remember saying, ‘Are we going to show this?'” he continued. “It’s like Woody’s baldness. It kind of takes them away from the animated work and you get into a bigger dramatic problem: Can they get married? And let’s move on from there.”
But eventually he came to the scene and explained. “I loved[it]because it affected everyone in the room. You know, the adults and the kids go, ‘Wow!'” You got a lot of different reactions. ”
After a long romance in the Disney series, Buzz and Jesse (voiced by Joan Cusack) get married in Toy Story 5, when their owner Bonnie stages a fake wedding for them.
Earlier this month, Allen also candidly admitted to the outlet that he “didn’t really want” to become a father.
“I joke about it on stage, but I was never a real fan of the kids,” he explained. “As people say over and over again about raising children, you go through all this to get a driver’s license or a passport, but nothing about (parenting) your children.”
“It was a work in progress,” he continued.
The “Home Improvement” alum later spoke about how getting sober in 1997 after being arrested for drunk driving affected his experience raising Katherine compared to Elizabeth.
“I made amends with (Catherine). You can see how different it is compared to a younger kid who has been sober for about 30 years,” he said. “She didn’t know about this guy at all. I thought about it a lot and talked to Kate about it, but she didn’t object to me.”
