Maggie Rogers exposed a New York Times reporter for cheating on her in front of thousands of fans at Madison Square Garden.
The musician attended Rosalía’s LUX tour concert at New York City’s iconic arena on Tuesday night, where she made a shocking revelation about the unknown two-timer.
“A while ago, I was single and a friend of mine said, ‘I have someone to take me on a date with,'” Rogers began.
The 32-year-old recalled thinking, “Great! They’re single and handsome,” noting that the mystery man worked for the New York Times.
“So he called me and he said, ‘I have a vintage car, can I come pick it up?’ So I said OK.”
During the date, Ms. Rogers drove around Manhattan, and as they talked, she said she “fell in love a little bit.”
“All of a sudden he said, ‘Oh my god, it’s actually right next to my office. Can I take you to the New York Times?'”
Rogers noted that at that time, it was 1 a.m. and no one was in the building.
“We walk in and he shows us around, completely emptying the building. We’re making out in the conference room. It looks like we’re having a really good time. He gives me a ride home and we’re making out in the car.”
According to the singer, her date wanted to go to her apartment, but she declined.
The next morning, she excitedly called her friends and told them that she had found someone. But one of her friends quickly responded, “Oh my god, that’s my friend’s boyfriend.”
Mr. Rogers called the man to ask about his secret girlfriend, but the man replied that he would “love to talk to[her]about it” and asked him to come to her apartment.
She broke off his advances and never spoke to him again.
“This is my story. This is my confession. I mean, what a loser. You can’t trust journalists,” she concluded.
The concert portion quickly went viral, with many fans begging the songwriter to remove the imposter’s name. Others hoped the man’s girlfriend saw the clip.
Rogers rose to fame in 2016 when her song “Alaska” was performed for artist-in-residence Pharrell Williams at a master class at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Since then, she has released three major studio albums and was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
Despite his on-stage confession, Rodgers has kept his dating life out of the spotlight. Her last public relationship was with Del Water Gap frontman Holden Jaffe, with whom she dated for five years.
