NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has partnered with Archie Comics to develop a new comic book series, “Vengeance Unchained: The Legend of Black Caesar,” about the rise of the mythical pirates of West Africa. Stephanie Williams will write the series, with art by Ray Anthony Hite and Studio Skytiger.
The official logline for Vengeance Unchained reads, “An African king with an extraordinary physical presence must navigate a brutal transformation from royalty to slavery to piracy and search for his kidnapped love.”
On the other hand, we discovered that freedom in the Caribbean is only available to those who seek to take it away by force. ”
“Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved stories about warriors who refused to quit,” O’Neill said. “Black Caesar starts out as a king, loses everything, and regains his freedom on his own terms. That’s what I want to help convey. We’ve created something that will entertain and make you think. And we’ve created something that we’ve created with Archie Comics, an iconic brand that I’ve been a huge fan of for years.” “We’re ready for the world to see what we’ve created. Archie has a great legacy of storytelling, and being able to collaborate with a brand that means so much to generations of fans makes this project even more fulfilling.” ”
Archie Comics is currently best suited to publish the long-running young adult comic book series Archie and its spinoffs Jughead and Betty and Veronica. Other works include “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” and “Joyce and the Pussycats.”
Vengeance Unchained: The Legend of Black Caesar is scheduled for release later this year. Colin Smeaton, Mike Paris and Matthew Gross of O’Neal’s Jersey Legend Productions and Authentic Studios are overseeing the project.
