Jennifer Lopez denied rumors that she is dating her Office Romance co-star Brett Goldstein in an awkward moment on live TV.
On Tuesday’s “Today” show, Savannah Guthrie asked her guest if the speculation about their off-screen chemistry was true, and Lopez seemed surprised by the question.
“There’s never been a time where I’ve been seen with someone or I’m working with someone and they don’t want me to be with them,” the “Hustlers” star responded.
“I think that’s what happens when you stand near her,” Goldstein agreed.
When the “Ted Lasso” star joked, Guthrie joked, “That’s what you want,” adding, “That’s why I was standing so close the whole time.”
But Ms. Guthrie was not satisfied with their responses to her questions, and specifically told Ms. Lopez that she had circled the questions.
“Okay, but let me tell you, that wasn’t the answer because I am me and you know me,” she said.
“Wasn’t that the answer? It was the answer!” Lopez responded to the journalist, noting that there had previously been unsubstantiated rumors about her and Kevin Costner.
Lopez added: “That happens all the time. It doesn’t mean it’s true.”
Guthrie also pointed out that the reason the “Let’s Get Loud” singer is constantly surrounded by romance rumors is because she’s “an attractive, eligible bachelor.”
“So you’re not dating in real life?” Guthrie asked again.
“We’re not dating,” Lopez said, to which Goldstein added, “That’s right.”
Later in the interview, Guthrie joked that he “freaked out” after mistaking the cue card for another question for Lopez.
“You tried to panic us, so we panicked you!” Lopez said with a laugh, when Guthrie responded, “So I panicked. That’s not fair!”
Lopez and Goldstein sparked dating rumors while promoting their new romantic comedy, which will be released on Netflix on Friday.
In the film, Lopez plays Jacqueline Cruz, a CEO who falls in love with new employee Daniel Blanchflower, played by Goldstein.
At the film’s red carpet premiere in New York last month, Lopez gushed about the “great chemistry” she had with Goldstein.
“As we made movies together, we just grew and grew,” she told People. “I was imagining someone more rough, but here came someone who was so kind, gentle, yet so smart and so charming. I think that was a surprise.”
Meanwhile, Goldstein, who co-wrote “Office Romance” with Joe Kelly, said he always had Lopez in mind as a co-star.
“We started asking ourselves who is the best romantic comedy star, and without hesitation we both said J. Lo,” he said at the premiere, boasting that Lopez is “the best” in the romantic comedy industry.
Goldstein’s only public relationship was with British comedian Beth Rylance in 2021.
Meanwhile, Lopez has been married four times.
She filed for divorce from her latest husband, Ben Affleck, in August 2024, months before filming began on “Office Romance.” She was previously married to Marc Anthony, Chris Judd, and Ojani Noa.
