“Alaskan Bush People” star Noah Brown has confirmed the identity of his brother Matt’s body found in the Washington River.
Noah, the youngest of seven Brown siblings, shared in an Instagram video Saturday that he identified Matt after his eldest brother’s body was pulled from the river. Noah said he was working with a search group to find Matt’s body, and that the group he was with found Matt at 3:27 p.m.
“I confirmed it was Matthew,” Noah said. “My oldest brother, Matthew Brown, has passed away.”
Noah said the family would receive more details once the coroner’s report was released and thanked those searching for Matt, including local residents.
“I was there when they pulled him out of the river,” he said. “We pulled him from shore, and after the sheriff arrived and everything was over, the coroner did his job, and I went down to make sure it was him.”
“That’s definitely Matthew,” he continued. “His ID and social security card were his, and I could visually identify it as Matthew.”
Noah also addressed fans of “Alaskan Bush People” and said, “I’m sorry that this has happened.”
“I don’t know what to say,” he added, pausing briefly as he became emotional.
“It’s too late anyway. Now is the time to say your prayers and tell your loved ones that you love them.”
Noah’s brother Bear Brown also shared a TikTok video on Saturday announcing that Matt died by suicide. He was 43 years old.
“I didn’t think he would hurt himself. It looks like it was a self-inflicted injury,” Baer said. “Obviously the coroner has to look at him and stuff, but I thought you guys should know it was him.”
Earlier this month, Matt posted an alarming livestream on YouTube of himself walking naked and carrying what appeared to be a gun. Baer said in a TikTok video last week that Matt “has struggled with alcohol and drugs for many years,” but insisted his family has not “shunned” him. In fact, it is said that Matt “didn’t want anything to do with his family.”
The last time they saw each other was “a while ago” when they ran into each other at Walmart, and Matt said he “fell off the wagon.” Baer said he recommended he go to a rehabilitation facility.
Baer repeatedly said, “I never thought Matt would take his own life.”
Matt appeared on Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People from 2014 to 2019, starring his parents Billy and Ami and his siblings. Billy passed away in 2021 at the age of 68.
The reality series follows the Brown family as they live off the grid in the wilderness.
