Matt Brown, star of Discovery’s docu-drama series “Alaskan Bush People,” has died. He was 43 years old.
Matt Brown’s death was announced by his brother Bear in a TikTok video posted Saturday night. Baer said her brother’s body was found in a nearby river and the cause of death appeared to be suicide.
“This is an update on Matt,” he said. “They found a body in the river a few hours ago and positively identified it as Matt. Noah (Brown) was with him and helped get him out of the water and Noah identified him.”
Baer continued, “Honestly, I never thought he would hurt himself. Like I said, he was in pain for a long time. I was so worried he was going to end up like an OD or something, but… I didn’t think he would hurt himself. The injuries look like they were self-inflicted. Obviously, the coroner still needs to look at him, but I thought you should know it was him.”
Matt Brown and his family appeared on the first eight seasons of Alaskan Bush People, which followed him, his parents, and six siblings as they lived without electricity in Alaska. Brown appeared in 79 episodes from 2014 to 2019.
In Saturday’s post, Baer asked viewers to “please respect my family and my mother. And everyone, please pay attention to the comments you leave. Sometimes words hurt more than fists.” He also noted that “many people have recorded negative comments” about Matt Brown’s past social media activity.
