Alexandra Grant said that she and Keanu Reeves, who she has been dating since 2019, support each other’s endeavors.
“He’s always cautious about feedback because he’s always grateful, and I think I’m the same way,” the artist, 53, told People magazine on Thursday about the actor, 61, visiting her in the studio while she was working.
In Grant’s eyes, “You always want to be respectful and let the other person bake the cake.”
The visual artist explained that in a partnership, “respect” works best when the other person needs to “dig deep and maybe have a quiet process or a different collaborative process.”
Mr. Grant elaborated that the “key” was “mutual respect.”
“The only thing I think we share is a belief in the project,” she gushed about herself and Reeves, adding, “Every project has its own autonomy.”
“So we’re both project people. You know, I’ve lived with John Wick, I’ve lived with Neo,” Grant said, referring to Reeves’ starring roles in the “John Wick” series and “The Matrix.”
“For example, when he’s playing a character, I really respect the understanding that this is the middle to the end of the project. I think the same is true when it comes to painting,” she elaborated.
Grant and Reeves first debuted their romance on the red carpet at the 2019 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles.
The two previously started out as friends and even collaborated on the 2011 book “Ode to Happiness.”
After going public, a source told People magazine: “Keanu wants to openly share his life with her. He is very happy and grateful to have Alex in his life.”
A year later, Grant confessed that he was hesitant to appear in public with Reeves.
“I think everyone I know called me the first week of November,” she admitted to Vogue in 2020. “That’s very interesting, but the question I’ve been asking throughout all of this is, ‘What are the opportunities for good?’
Despite the public frenzy, Grant didn’t shy away from praising his partner from time to time.
“He’s such an inspiration to me,” she told People magazine in 2023. “He’s very creative, very kind. He works very hard.”
In September 2025, Grant posted a photo of himself and Reeves kissing in Arizona on Instagram, ending speculation about their marriage.
“I’m sharing it here to say thank you to everyone who celebrated our wedding,” she joked. “Except we never got married.”
“Good news is so needed these days, but it’s still fake news, so be careful,” Grant continued. “So here is true happiness!”
