Meryl Streep and Martin Short are finding solace in each other as they continue to deal with the devastating loss of their daughter Katherine.
A source close to the couple exclusively told Page Six that their relationship has been a source of strength and support for their “Murder in the Bill” co-stars.
“They work very well together,” the source said. “Each of them seems to be exactly what the other needs at this stage in life. Everything feels incredibly easy between them.”
“There’s no friction, no drama, no complications,” the source added. “They really enjoy being together and have a natural flow.”
The source said that the “The Devil Wears Prada” star and the “Father of the Bride” actor, both 76 years old, “there is a really rare level of ease between them.”
“Everyone should be so lucky to find someone who fits into their lives as much as they fit into each other’s lives,” the source explained. “They make each other laugh, they support each other, and there’s just a calmness to their relationship. It never feels forced.”
Representatives for Streep and Short did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
Sources said the connection became especially meaningful as Short moved on with his life after Kathryn’s sudden death on February 23 at the age of 42.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a spokesperson for Short told Page Six on February 24. “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world.”
The couple have been together for “over a year,” Page Six exclusively revealed, but have kept their romance largely private.
As previously reported, Streep and Short’s romance was “totally unexpected” and also “took them by surprise.”
“Meryl couldn’t help but fall in love with Martin,” a source told Page Six at the time. “He’s a gentleman, he always makes her laugh and he’s an all around positive person. She loves being around him.”
Most recently, the pair looked happier than ever as they enjoyed a dinner date in London, and were pictured smiling together during an intimate night out.
“Spent a few days in London, randomly picked restaurants and ended up eating just meters away from Meryl Streep and her husband,” a fan tweeted, along with a snap of Streep and Short sitting next to each other in a corner booth. (Streep and Short are not married.)
When asked by a fan if she tried to take selfies with the actors, she replied, “No. They were having a great time, full of laughter and kind gestures. I didn’t want to force myself in the middle of it.”
