Hilaria Baldwin reveals the secret behind her long and successful marriage to Alec Baldwin.
“We let each other be who we are, and I think that’s one of the reasons our relationship has lasted so long, because we’re polar opposites, so different,” the yoga instructor told the Daily Mail in an interview at the Spotlight magazine cover party at One Art Space.
Hilaria, 42, also said that regular dating helps keep the flame alive. “We spend a lot of time on date nights,” she told the outlet.
“We’ve been traveling a lot for work lately, but we also try to have a lot of date nights.”
The Dancing with the Stars alum, 42, and the 30 Rock star, 68,’s date nights “usually involve dinner,” the mother of seven revealed.
“He loves a good dinner, and we either go out or I cook, and we usually end up chatting and updating each other on our seven kids and our projects.”
Hilaria poked fun at the decades-long rift between the two, which has been a hot topic of discussion.
“Say a 27-year-old yoga instructor marries an older man who is rich and famous. That seems ridiculous. It sounds like a bad ‘SNL’ sketch,” she quipped.
“Luckily it worked out, but we always tease each other as a family,” Hilaria added. “I think people expect that Alec wanted someone who could boss him around, and we’re on the same level together.”
However, their marriage was not without stressors. The couple have welcomed no fewer than seven children since marrying in a lavish church ceremony in 2012.
“There’s been so much turmoil in our lives, many of it wonderful and some terrifying, but we’ve managed to figure it out,” she said.
Meanwhile, Alec praised his wife, calling her “a very special person”.
“When I met her, she was unknown. She wasn’t famous,” the “Beetlejuice” actor continued. “She was a hard worker and I really admired her. She was immeasurably beautiful inside and out.”
Alec, who has children Carmen (12), Rafael (10), Leonardo (9), Romeo (8), Eduardo (5), Maria Lucia (5) and Ilaria (3) with Hilaria, said his best moments are spending time at home with his family.
“For me, I don’t want to leave the house anymore,” he told the media, even though he confessed that he also loves “going to work.”
“I want to stay home and do nothing and be with my kids.”
Alec, who also has daughter Ireland, 30, with ex-wife Kim Basinger, 72, often pokes fun at his marriage to Hilaria with humorous videos on social media.
Meanwhile, Hilaria spoke about their marriage, and the age difference that comes with it, in several candid interviews.
“There are some things you have to look at him and say, ‘He’s got 26 more years of experience,'” she said on a November episode of the podcast “Uncut and Used.”
“And sometimes that brings flexibility, and sometimes it just requires a little bit of therapy.”
