Once in Hollywood, Maddox, the son of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, applied to legally abolish the actor’s last name.
The 24-year-old made the request Thursday, citing his reasons as “personal” in court documents obtained by Page Six.
If the change is approved, his name will be Maddox Chivan Jolie instead of Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt.
The Daily Mail was the first to report the news.
Representatives for Pitt and Jolie did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
A source said it was “no surprise that this news was announced” on the heels of Wednesday’s report that Pitt and Jolie had scored a “significant evidentiary victory” in their ongoing Chateau Miraval legal battle.
Notably, Maddox unofficially dropped his father’s last name in the credits of Jolie’s latest film in February.
He worked as an assistant director on Couture and was listed as Maddox Jolie at the time, according to People.
Two years ago, he was credited as an executive producer on “Maria” with Maddox Jolie-Pitt.
Maddox’s decision to go the legal route followed that of his 20-year-old brother Shiloh.
When Shiloh turned 18 in May 2024, she applied for Pitt’s expulsion, which was approved three months later.
Shiloh’s move is not just a “name change,” but represents a “deeper alienation that has been brewing for years,” and Pitt is “devastated,” a source told Us Weekly in June 2024.
But the source insisted they have “no intention of giving up” on Shiloh, Maddox and their remaining siblings Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17.
The outlet reported the following year that although Pitt sees his two youngest children “regularly,” his relationship with his remaining children is “strained.”
The children have repeatedly made headlines for not using the “F1” star’s last name at graduation ceremonies, Broadway flyers and sorority induction ceremonies.
Pitt and Jolie separated in 2016 after 12 years together and became legally single in 2019.
When their controversial divorce battle was finalized in December 2024, Pitt told GQ that it wasn’t “that big of a deal” and “just something coming to fruition.”
He has been in a relationship with jewelry designer Ines de Ramon since 2022.
