Dennis Quaid is seeking to terminate the $13,750 monthly child support payments he paid to ex-wife Kimberly Buffington for their 18-year-old twins Thomas and Zoe.
The “Parent Trap” actor filed the petition Wednesday in Los Angeles’ Stanley Mosque Courthouse, Page Six confirmed.
In court documents obtained by People, the 72-year-old actor cited a clause in his 2018 divorce agreement with Buffington that stated the payments would end once the children graduated from 12th grade.
According to the outlet, Zoe will graduate from high school on May 23rd and Thomas will graduate on June 3rd.
Quaid’s filing reportedly states that the divorce agreement also requires him to pay Buffington, 54, an additional amount each year if his income exceeds $1.3 million.
The Golden Globe nominees requested that Zoe and Thomas’ bonus amounts be pro-rated up to their graduation date, rather than their annual income.
Page Six has reached out to his representatives for comment.
Quaid and Buffington were married for 14 years, but filed for divorce multiple times during that time, and separated for good in 2016.
When their divorce was finalized in 2018, the former couple agreed to joint legal and physical custody of Thomas and Zoe, who were born via surrogate in November 2007.
In 2020, Quaid filed a petition asking a judge to reduce her child support amount, claiming that she spent half of the time with her then-preteen children and paid for all their expenses.
Quaid ultimately agreed to pay more, as long as it was “based on Thomas and Zoe’s reasonable needs.”
Buffington was Quaid’s third wife. He was previously married to PJ Soles from 1978 to 1983 and Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001.
Quaid and Ryan, 64, have one son, “The Boys” actor Jack Quaid, who recently married co-star Claudia Doumit in Australia. Both of Jack’s parents were present at the wedding.
Quaid married his fourth wife Laura Savoie, 33, in 2020.
Last year, Quaid told FOX News Digital that despite their 39-year age difference, living with Savoie was like “paradise.”
“This is the closest relationship I’ve ever had with anyone,” the “Substance” actor said. “I don’t know why I waited so long for God to bring her or for her to come with me, but (I’m) really glad that God brought her into my life or that I walked into her life.”
