Prime Minister Kirk Cameron said he left his native California for Tennessee two years ago because of its liberal policies and high cost of living.
On Tuesday’s podcast, the “Growing Pains” star explained to Adam Carolla, “It’s great to have a childhood in California because my parents pay for everything.”
“So I can go to the beach, I can hang out, I can go snow skiing, I can eat In-N-Out burgers, I can eat hot dogs in downtown Hollywood. It’s great. I’m having a good time.”
But once his children became independent, he said he realized how expensive things were in the Golden State.
“They understand how bad the politics are and all the other things that make it difficult to raise a family there,” he says.
“Then all of a sudden I was like, ‘Oh my god, I have to move. I have to go to a place where I can actually grow and maybe even survive.’
After previously saying he misses California’s weather, Cameron said he hopes to return someday: “I think California has a lot to offer because it’s pound for pound. Tennessee is getting better though.”
He added, “People are coming from New York and California to Tennessee like crazy, especially the Nashville area in Middle Tennessee. It’s pretty amazing.”
“There are a lot of creators here with good values. They love their families,” he said.
“They’re proud of their country, and the whiskey is great. So if you like whiskey and hot chicken, Nashville is the place to be.”
The 55-year-old grew up in Los Angeles and rose to fame with “Growing Pains” as a teenager.
