Mary McDonnell will guest star in the Baywatch reboot.
The Boroughs star will reprise her role as Gail, the mother of main character Hobie Buchannon, played by Stephen Amell. The character is described as a “sophisticated woman with an ironic presence.”
According to the character’s description, “She cares deeply about her family and is there for them, even when she’s not sure if they need help.” “Gail and Hobie have a long and complicated history, but no matter how much time or distance separates them, the family always seems to find a way back together. She’s learned a thing or two about second chances over the years, and she shares that wisdom with humor and grace.”
The new Baywatch series will premiere on Fox in January 2027. The cast includes original series actors David Chokachi and Erika Eleniak reprising their roles as Kody Madison and Shawni McClain, as well as newcomers Jessica Belkin as Charlie Vail, Shay Mitchell as Trina, Hussie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, and Brooks Nader as Brad. Selene, Noah Beck as Luke, Libby Dunn as Grace, and Nadia Gray as Lisa.
Matt Nix is the showrunner for Baywatch 2.0 and will executive produce alongside director McG, Michael Burke, Greg Bonnan, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. The reboot continues the story of the original series, the global phenomenon that propelled David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson to Hollywood superstardom. Thanks to California tax incentives, the series is being filmed on the beaches and soundstages of Los Angeles.
McDonnell will be appearing in Marvel’s “Vision Quest” series and the indie film “One Second After.” Her television credits include “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “Major Crimes,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “The Closer,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “ER,” and her film roles include “Dances with Wolves,” “Independence Day,” “Passion Fish,” “Sneakers,” “Donnie Darko,” and “The Grand Canyon.”
Mr. McDonnell is repped by Innovative Artists and Anonymous Content and Wallman PR.
