CNBC names Ken Brown as editor-in-chief of digital and editorial strategy

Ken Brown, one of the most durable journalists in financial journalism in recent years, will be joining CNBC to oversee the business news bureau’s digital editorial operations and develop its overall strategy.

He will report directly to CNBC Editor-in-Chief David Cho and will begin work on June 8th.

Mr. Brown will “accelerate our digital strategy and strengthen our responsiveness to the forces reshaping our businesses, markets, and economies,” Mr. Cho said in a note Thursday. “From the capital demands of AI to the pace of innovation to the resurgence of trading, major changes are rapidly transforming the industry. We see a huge opportunity to deepen our coverage, tell more stories, and grow the audience for these stories.”

Mr. Brown most recently worked at The Information, and before that he spent a long time as a senior editor at the Wall Street Journal, overseeing research, finance, climate, markets and global coverage. At various times, he oversaw coverage of Asian financial markets and the Journal’s “Heard on the Street” column. He also spent two years on the buy side at Pzena Investment Management.

At The Information, Ken expanded his coverage of AI funding and data center growth. At the Journal, he led coverage of the paper’s award-winning coverage of the global financial crisis and reported extensively on the bursting of the tech bubble. ” said Cho. “He has led investigations into cryptocurrencies, the finances of the Trump family, the vast wealth of the Mormon Church, and 1MDB, the Malaysian investment fund that ensnared Goldman Sachs, Middle Eastern royalty, and Hollywood stars.Ken is also an adjunct professor at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where he teaches investigative reporting.

Brown also worked at the New York Times, Smart Money Magazine, and the Washington Post. He attended the State University of New York at Binghamton and the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.
