Cooper Hoffman will play a former snowboarding star looking to get rich quickly in Hulu’s new drama pilot “Durango.”
The logline for “Durango” reads, “Mikey is a ski-loving townie looking for a hot topic. Bunny is a runaway while homeschooling as a greasy waitress. The two fall in love as they overcome an avalanche of bad decisions, chase their American dream, and run from the police, criminals, and Mikey’s wife.”
According to the official description, Hoffman’s character, Mikey, is a “friendly, street-savvy local snowboarding legend” whose dreams of competing in the Olympics were cut short by an injury. He agrees to enter into a green card marriage with newcomer Bunny for cash, but after actually falling in love with her, “he is unwittingly drawn into something much more dangerous.”
Eliza Clark wrote the pilot and serves as executive producer with Michael Ellenberg for Media Res. 20th Century Television and Media Res is producing “Durango.”
Hoffman, who broke out in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Liquorice Pizza and Francis Lawrence’s The Long Walk, will next be seen co-starring Olivia Wilde in Greg Araki’s subversive comedy-thriller I Want Your Sex, opening July 31. He will also soon be starring in Maud Apatow’s TIFF darling Poetic License and Luca. Guadagnino’s AI drama “Artificial,” and A24’s road comedy “The Chaperones,” which reunites director Hoffman and “The Long Walk” co-star David Josson.
Hoffman’s other film credits include “Wildcat,” “Saturday Night,” “The Old Guy,” and “Poetic License.”
