“Backroom” star Mark Duplass came to the defense of Caine Parsons on Tuesday, defending X from rumors that the 20-year-old filmmaker is not actually directing the new horror movie.

In response to an

“The Blue Heron” director Sophie Ronvari offered her own take on the controversy surrounding Parsons. She wrote on X Tuesday, “This kind of discourse about age and success is fueled by jealousy. That being said, I can confidently say that I’m so glad I made my first feature film at 34 instead of in my 20s. I’m a much better filmmaker now.”

“The Backrooms” is based on Parsons’ hugely popular YouTube series, which tells the story of a small-town furniture store owner who discovers a mysterious door to another world in his showroom. In addition to Duplass, the cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell. Produced by James Wan, Shawn Levy, and Osgood Perkins.

Director Parsons said in a recent interview at CCXP Mexico that the production team built approximately 30,000 square feet of eerie perimeter walls for the “Back Rooms” set and “did 50 wallpaper tests to get the right shade of yellow.”

“The set was huge,” he said. “We built a 30,000-square-foot back room that you could actually walk around in. Some people actually got lost. It felt like they were there, which was really weird.”
