Anne Hathaway has finally denied the “disturbing” rumors that she had plastic surgery.
In a new interview with Elle published Thursday, Hathaway admitted that she has not had plastic surgery, although she said she “never comments” on her appearance.
“We’re in a time where people are very confident in assuming what they think is fact, and sometimes they’re right and sometimes they’re not,” the 43-year-old told the magazine.
Hathaway continued, “My hope is… to just live in mystery and not draw attention to myself, but there’s been so much speculation that I feel like I need to come out with my truth.”
In her first subtle response to the speculation, the “The Devil Wears Prada 2” actress reflected on a clever beauty hack she shared in March.
In the viral video, Hathaway asks hairstylist Orlando Pita to “show me your secret” after “drum roll please.”
Pita told her client’s followers that she would create “one (braid) on each side” and “combine them together at the back.”
Hathaway previously revealed that she uses bobby pins to plump up her lips, saying the move makes her look “a little more awake.”
The actress told Elle that she would “probably always wonder” whether she should have posted the video, but said she took the initiative to post it because she felt the “conversation” about her appearance was “distracting.”
Hathaway noted Thursday that getting a facelift was a “major medical decision that people assume” about her.
“I wanted to show that no, I wasn’t making a major medical decision,” she explained to the outlet. “It’s two and three braids.
“By the way, the other thing about all of this is that I might get a facelift someday, too,” the Oscar winner joked.
Later in the interview, Hathaway admitted that it would have been more difficult to deal with criticism earlier in her career.
“One thing about me when I was younger is that she was very scared, and I think that fear made me hard on myself,” she said.
“I shudder to think that in being so hard on myself, I may have inadvertently been hard on others. In fact, I feel sick thinking about it,” Hathaway added.
