David Bickel, the television writer and producer known for “The King of Queens” and “Young Sheldon,” recently wrote and directed the independent comedy pilot “To Life.”
According to the official description, “To Life” is a single-camera, half-hour comedy starring Natalie Lander as “an anxiety-plagued woman who suddenly discovers she can communicate with inanimate objects. What begins as a whimsical, magical realist setting gradually evolves into an unexpected and disturbing mystery.”
In the trailer for “To Life,” Jason Alexander plays a mental health professional who recommends that Lander’s character try microdosing psychedelic mushrooms to help him cope with the death of his mother. Soon, after trying a higher than recommended dose, random items in her house take on animated faces and start talking to her, even after the mushrooms disappear.

Bickel described the pilot’s tone as “a cross between ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Search Party,'” and said in a statement to Variety: “‘To Life’ was born as a reaction to the current doldrums in Hollywood: Nothing sells, nothing gets made. “So the idea was, let’s bring together a group of incredibly talented people who are creatively motivated and let’s make something together. We think so.” It’s something we’re all very proud of and we can’t wait to share it. ”
“To Life” was produced by AJ Prager, with Matthew Marder as associate producer and first assistant director, and Will Turner as director of photography.
