Rumer Willis has revealed the moment she found out her relationship with musician Derek Richard Thomas, the father of her daughter Louetta, was over.
Willis told host Maeve Reilly of the podcast “The Inside Edit” on Wednesday’s episode that it was Reilly’s wedding that made her realize she didn’t want to be with Thomas anymore. Willis attended real estate agent Zach Quitman’s wedding to celebrity stylist Zach Quitman in the Cayman Islands in June 2024.
“Your wedding was a huge moment for me,” Willis told Riley. “When I heard your vows, I realized that no matter how hard I tried, my situation would never be like that.”
“And I was just looking at you guys, holding my child and just crying, and I thought, you know what? I have to value myself more.”
“No matter how scary it is, you have to go and love it and walk away and find something similar to this, because that’s what you want.”
Willis, 37, and Thomas, 31, first started dating in May 2022 and welcomed their daughter, Louetta, in April 2023.
However, Willis confirmed that the two will separate in August 2024 and are co-parenting their children.
After going through a breakup, Willis said she was just starting to feel like she was “taking my power back.”
“It was really brutal and challenging,” she said of her relationship with Thomas. “And I’m so proud of myself. I work hard and show up for my kids, and it’s such an honor.”
“Being a mother is such an honor,” she continued. “I’m very happy.”
Willis said she is grateful for the tough experience because it has made her have higher standards for her next relationship.
She then shared that she plans to get married next year and have more children.
“I’m going to meet this amazing man,” she said of what she’s putting out into the world for herself. “I can’t wait. I’m planning on having about seven more kids…I want about eight kids. I’m so excited.”
Back in November, Willis posted a video of herself crying over the struggles of being a single mother to 3-year-old Louetta, getting vulnerable from her Instagram followers.
“She’s not hard (by any means), but some days it’s hard to do everything by herself,” she shared.
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s eldest son added, “Wow, and (I) just realized I have food in my teeth…I really won today.”
