Director Jeff Fowler has finished filming Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Fowler, who directed all three Sonic movies, shared the news via X, writing, “On behalf of this incredible cast/crew, we shot the best Sonic movie ever and I can’t wait to share it.”
He also shared a photo of himself sitting in the director’s chair and posing with a figure of Metal Sonic, the evil robot teased in the third installment.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is the anthropomorphic speedster’s latest adventure. Plot details for the fourth film have not yet been revealed. However, the cast will be led by Ben Schwartz. Jim Carrey, Kristen Bell, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Coleen O’Shaughnessy, Lee Maidub, Nick Offerman, Richard Ayoade.
Paramount’s live-action/CGI hybrid film series has proven incredibly lucrative at the global box office, grossing a total of $1 billion.
Released in December 2024, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has grossed $218 million domestically and $422 million worldwide to date, officially making it the property’s highest-grossing film. Sonic 4 builds on the commercial success of its predecessor. The original 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog was a surprise winner, earning $148 million domestically and $319 million worldwide, setting a then-record for highest grossing video game in North America. And the 2022 sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was even bigger than its predecessor, grossing $190 million domestically and $405 million worldwide. In early January, the “Sonic” series’ worldwide box office revenue totaled more than $1 billion.
The fourth installment in the series will be released on March 19, 2027.
