Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa took aim at the sci-fi show during her monologue as host of Saturday Night Live UK’s season finale on May 16.
In his monologue, Gatois mocked the lack of enthusiasm for the latest season of Doctor Who and the bizarre climax of the season 15 finale, in which Gatois’ Doctor regenerates into Billie Piper.
He said: “I’ve had a lot of great roles in my career. Millions of people saw me as Eric in Sex Education and about 12 of them saw me in Doctor Who.” That’s probably why I kept crying,” he joked.
“All kidding aside, it was a really magical role. In fact, it was the first time my parents were truly proud of my career. When I told them I got the role, they said, ‘Finally, we have a doctor in the family.'” After that, I became Billie Piper…I don’t even know it…I still love Doctor Who, and it introduced me to so many crazy characters, just like here. ”
Gatwa was joined by indie pop singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone as a musical guest on Episode 8.
