Nick Cannon has revealed that while he’s okay with his Moroccan son dating a 15-year-old, Moroccan’s twin sister Monroe doesn’t receive the same treatment.
“My son was dating and I approved of it,” Cannon, 45, said on Saturday’s episode of the “TMZ Podcast.” “I’ve been encouraging that.”
However, the comedian didn’t hold back when sharing his parenting views on his daughter, after interviewer Towanda Robinson said she hopes Monroe will “allow” and “encourage” her to parent in the same way.
“No, absolutely not. That’s a complete double standard,” Cannon admitted.
“I have to do that first, because I know I get in a lot of trouble because I say things off my chest, but it’s different when you’re raising a son than it is when you’re raising a daughter.”
“I became more protective of my daughter because there are things in the world that you have to protect her from,” he explained.
“As we all know, there are certain types of people you want to keep your daughter away from. Son, when you go out into the dating world, it’s a different story.”
The “Wild ‘N Out” star went on to point to the possibility of domestic violence in their children’s dating lives as an example of their different upbringings.
“But if someone messes with my daughter, I’m going to go to jail,” Cannon explained, adding that this scenario would be his “worst nightmare” because “I’m going to go to jail forever.”
As for concerns about her son’s dating life, Cannon said it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen in his son’s life and that he’s not worried about potential “gold diggers” because “he has a lot of money. His mom is Mariah Carey.”
Dating may not be on the cards for Moroccans for a while, but the father of 12 is already making plans for when the time comes.
“We made a deal. If she explains to me what’s going to happen on this date, she’s good to go,” he said.
“I’m getting her ready for college. I know it’s out of my control. There’s nothing I can do. Hopefully, we still have an open conversation. My daughter will tell me anything.”
“I’m nervous, but if you can explain it to me and we can talk about it, I’m all for it, because once you get into college, you want all your questions answered and you want to make the best decision possible,” Cannon explained.
