She wasn’t on board.
Scarlett Johansson wanted nothing to do with her husband Colin Jost’s decision to buy the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry boat for $280,100 four years ago.
The “Saturday Night Live” comedian revealed his damning one-word reaction to his movie star wife’s purchase in a teaser for the May 4 episode of his podcast “Smartless.”
“I sent Scarlett an email saying, ‘What do you think? We own a ferry now,'” Jost, 43, recalled. “And she said, ‘Us?'”
Representatives for Johansson and Jost did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
The “Weekend Update” host pulled the trigger and bought an 80-metre ferryboat in January 2022 with former “SNL” co-star Pete Davidson, 32, and business partners Paul Italia and Ron Castellano.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in June 2023, Davidson claimed that he and Jost were “very surprised” when they bought the decommissioned vessel at auction.
“I have no idea what’s going on with that,” he added at the time. “I wish I could be a Transformer, solve problems, and stop paying.”
However, his friend and business partner quickly denied Davidson’s claims that they were both “very upset” when he bought the ferry boat.
“Wouldn’t it have been better if I was actually stone cold sober when I bought the ferry?” Jost wrote on Instagram.
“We’re excited to prove the non-believers wrong. You’ll want to be on this ferry in two years. Mark my words.”
Jost and Johansson more recently went on to address the elephant in the room during a January 2025 episode of “TODAY with Jenna & Friends.”
“If anyone wants to start a GoFundMe for the Staten Island Ferry, please be my guest,” the “Avengers” star, 41, joked.
“I don’t know if I’m for or against the Staten Island Ferry, but please help our family, okay?” she added. “This is now a telethon to ‘Support the Staten Island Ferry.’”
But Jost quickly fired back, insisting that the investment was “to put food on the table for (families).”
The couple, who married in 2020, have a 4-year-old son, Cosmo.
“I hope you have thick gloves at home, because one day you’re going to end up with a lot of paper cuts from all the checks that come off this ferry,” the comedian joked.
But while Mr. Jost, Mr. Davidson and their business partners are reportedly losing money and facing one obstacle after another as they try to get the ferry project off the ground, the “Weekend Update” star has refused to abandon ship.
During the “Smartless” teaser, Jost proposed two possible plans for the 70,000-square-foot ship, which he and Davidson named Titanic II. It’s either a place where people can “go party” or a swim club.
“Growing up in Staten Island, I went to a place called Great Hills Swim Club,” he told co-hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. “It was a swimming club where people could just go and have fun together, kids and adults.”
He continued, “I could imagine creating a place that actually felt like middle-class Manhattan, rather than some weird, exclusive members’ club.”
Still, Jost appears to be questioning the future of his and Davidson’s more than $280,000 investment.
“It’s okay,” he reassured the podcast host and himself. “Is this a sign that the economic situation is OK?”
