Eileen Kelly, the girlfriend of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, has fiercely defended their 33-year age difference and hit back at critics with applause.
In her April 21 Vogue essay, “My Boyfriend is Twice My Age,” the 30-year-old sex educator wrote about “dating someone much older,” although she didn’t specifically mention Kiedis, 63, by name.
“There’s something to be said for a man who just spends more time with me. My much older boyfriend really seems to enjoy being with me,” she wrote.
“He’s very aware that he’s a lucky bastard,” Kelly added.
The Going Mental podcast host revealed that she and Kiedis met at a birthday party and explained that their “age difference didn’t bother me at first.”
“I met someone interesting and attractive, and I thought we would just be friends,” she continued. “But that’s when we exchanged numbers and made plans to get coffee.”
Kelly claimed there was a belief that it was “creepy” and “disgusting” for older men to date younger women, while the latter were thought to either “have daddy issues” or be “gold diggers”.
“Is it really so difficult to imagine that connections exist across generations, that two people of different ages can find authenticity in each other?” she asked.
The businessman also condemned “unsolicited comments in public,” including statements such as “Is that your father?” “Your daughter is very beautiful.”
Kelly also recalled cutting ties with a friend who criticized her relationship, saying, “Now we don’t talk much.”
Additionally, the podcaster said that people’s opinions about her relationships are a reflection of themselves.
“From the inside, we are almost just two people doing the regular, ongoing task of going through life together,” she concluded.
According to E!, Kelly and Kiedis have been spotted together several times since November. News and people.
The couple was recently spotted holding hands at a post-Grammy Awards party in February.
The following month, Madonna and Guy Ozery were seen together at the Oscar ceremony and a Los Angeles Lakers game.
