Demi Lovato headlined Madison Square Garden for the first time. She recently reunited with her former Disney co-stars, including Selena Gomez. The singer reflected on why it was such an important reunion.
On Friday, Demi Lovato spoke to Billboard after her first headline appearance at New York’s Madison Square Garden. During the interview, the star talked about her time working at Disney Channel and other stars who came of age at the same time on Disney Channel. Lovato was recently spotted with Selena Gomez backstage at a show in Orlando. The two had begun working together again on Gomez’s Wizards of Waverly Place reboot.
“I think the age we’re in right now is a really nostalgia-loving age,” Lovato told Billboard. “All the 30-somethings who lived through the Disney era with me, Selena, the Jonas Brothers, and Miley[Cyrus]crave Disney, and it’s fun to go back and relive those moments.”
After being asked if fan nostalgia is driving reunions like this, she replied, “Oh, for sure. Yeah, I think that’s why it’s all coming together again in this era.”
After reuniting in Orlando, Gomez shared a series of photos of Lovato on her Instagram Story, writing, “I’m in tears, @ddlovato — this was definitely one of the best shows. Oh, and the vocals? Mmm, I’m blown away.”
Lovato reposted the article and wrote over it, “(watery-eyed emoji) Thank you so much for coming!!! It was great to meet you (white heart emoji).”
Other special guests have appeared at Lovato’s shows this spring, appealing to fans’ nostalgia. At MSG, JoJo and her husband Jutsu were invited as special guests, and they performed live together for the first time.
And at her opening show in Orlando, Lovato welcomed Joe Jonas. The former couple sang Camp Rock’s hit song “This Is Me” for the upcoming Camp Rock 3. Disney fans are in for a treat.
