Billy Porter is one of the celebrities who never graces the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In an interview with Beverages on Wednesday, Porter flatly stated that he would not be attending the 2026 Met Gala red carpet.
“I haven’t been invited since 2019,” he said. “This is the only time I’ve ever been or been invited,” he said, adding that it was Ryan Murphy who invited him to the camping-themed event.
Porter has only been there once, but he made it important.
Dressed as a golden phoenix, he made his entrance with considerable force, being carried onto a black velvet bed on the shoulders of six shirtless men.
Positioned at the base of the iconic staircase, Porter dramatically unfurled her expansive golden ring while wearing a fully embellished bodysuit and shoulder-length jeweled wig.
Porter said he felt particularly disrespected by not being invited to last year’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
“I’m going to put it out there, (but) I’m fine,” he said, adding, “As a matter of fact, if people ask me, they need to know that I’m not invited and I’m fine.”
“I don’t go to places where I’m not welcome,” he concluded. “I’ve got an invitation. I’m okay with not having one, because the level I’ve reached doesn’t require any outside validation. I’m just going to sit there and live my life, because it also helps keep me sane.”
Porter hasn’t had a positive relationship with Vogue over the years. In 2023, he started calling editor-in-chief Anna Wintour a bitch after criticizing Harry Styles’ cover.
