Before there was Andy Sachs, there was Lauren Weisberger.
The author of The Devil Wears Prada famously wrote the book, which was made into a 2006 movie and inspired an upcoming sequel, based on his real-life experiences as Anna Wintour’s assistant, but it wasn’t all about going out for coffee and wearing tacky sweaters.
Weisberger attended the New York City premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” at Lincoln Center in New York City on Monday night with her husband and two children as her dates.
In an Instagram post after the event, the author called life “weird and wonderful” and revealed that her daughter was carrying around the bag that Wintour herself gave Weisberger at the time – a Prada.
“Anna Wintour gifted me that very Prada bag many months ago. Tonight my beautiful daughter carried it on the red carpet,” she wrote.
Weisberger worked at Vogue magazine for less than a year in early 2000 before publishing her book in 2003. It’s unclear exactly when Wintour gifted the wallet, but it dates from the early ’80s and is an original version of the now-iconic Cleo bag.
Weisberger’s daughter wasn’t the only one wearing the Italian fashion house on the red carpet. Wintour herself wore a custom Prada striped dress in 2016.
And the editor’s own daughter-in-law pulled Wintour’s floral Prada dress, which she first wore in 2019, out of the archives.
The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada will be released in theaters on May 1st.
