Former adult film star Asia Carrera successfully pivoted her wild career by passing the Texas bar exam and putting herself on track to become a practicing attorney.
Carrera, born Jessica Steinhauser in New York City, shared the news this week after undergoing the notoriously grueling test in Waco in February.
“I passed the bar exam!!!” she wrote in a Facebook post. “Asia Esquire, everyone!!!”
“When I looked out into this huge auditorium of about 1,000 Lee Beagle dogs hunched over laptops, furiously typing away, I knew, ‘These are the guys I’m going to have to beat,’ and it was a scary feeling, but I think it worked!” she added.
Carrera, 52, went on to say that this was his second attempt at the “two-day, 12-hour” exam, having failed the last time by just two points.
“I missed the exam last time by only 2 points (268 out of 270), but I was still unsure about the law and scored close to the passing mark on the mock exam,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
“This time I knew what I was capable of, and on the final exam I scored higher than 91% of my classmates at Barbri Bar Prep.”
According to TMZ, public records show she was admitted to the Texas Bar under her real name, an important step toward practicing law.
Gossip sites report that Carrera never wanted to become a lawyer and just wanted to prove that he could pass the exam.
Still, this feat isn’t all that shocking considering her academic achievements.
Carrera is a member of Mensa and has a reported IQ of 156.
She also holds a master’s degree in education, giving her a strong foundation far removed from the industry that made her famous.
Born in New York City to a German mother and a Japanese father, Carrera grew up in Little Silver, New Jersey, where he showed serious academic promise early on.
At just 16 years old, she was already teaching English at a Japanese university.
She then went on to attend Rutgers University on a full scholarship, but dropped out when she realized she could make more money dancing and modeling. This decision ultimately launched her career in adult entertainment.
After leaving the porn industry, Carrera kept a mostly low profile and focused on her life outside of the spotlight.
It remains unclear whether she intends to actively practice law or whether passing the bar exam was simply to prove a point. In any case, the achievement stands on its own.
