Netflix has started production on the new Korean drama series “Facade of Love” starring Lee Dong Wook, Jeon Sun Hye, Jung Yoo Mi, and Lee Jung Won. Directed by Mo Wan-il, written by Ha Soo-jin.
Director Mo directed the drama “The World of Couples” and the thriller “The Frog,” which had the highest ratings in the history of Korean cable television. Ha previously wrote the historical romantic comedy “The Matchmakers” and the supernatural comedy “Sell Your Haunted House.”
The series centers on two strangers, Jihoon and Hukyung, who share a charged connection overseas. When the two return to Korea, the effects of their encounter ripple outward, drawing Ji-hoon’s wife and brother into an increasingly complex emotional situation.
Lee Dong-wook, known for works such as “Guardian: The Lonely Great God” and “Hell Is a Stranger,” will play the lead role of Ji-hoon. Jeon Sun-ae, who recently appeared in “Parasite: The Grey” and “As You Standby,” will play Hugyeong. Jung Yoo-mi, known for her roles in “Train to Busan” and “Kim Ji-young Born in 1982,” will play the role of Ji-hoon’s wife Sung-hee. Lee Jeong-won, who appeared in “Knight’s Flower” and “Golden Spoon,” rounds out the main cast as Dae-hee, Sun-hee’s younger brother.
“The Facade of Love” comes as part of Netflix Korea’s 2026 expansion slate that leans heavily toward adult romantic dramas. Among other titles this year, Blackpink’s Jisoo is leading the romantic comedy “Boyfriend on Demand,” in which she plays a webtoon producer who escapes her exhausting daily life through a subscription-based virtual dating service. Gong Yoo and Song Hye-kyo will reunite in the historical drama “Tantara,” written by No Hee-kyung and directed by Lee Yoon-jung, which tracks the Korean entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s. Acclaimed film director Lee Chang-dong returns to directing for the first time in eight years with his first Netflix collaboration, Possible Love. Starring Jeon Do-young, Sol Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong, the film depicts two couples whose lives collide.
“The Facade of Love” will be distributed exclusively on Netflix.
