Britney Spears’ sons have been helping the pop star get back on her feet and get the treatment she needs.
Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, have been huge to their mother since she was arrested on drunk driving charges last month, a source close to the singer exclusively tells Page Six.
“She’s been on a downward spiral for the last few years and things weren’t going well, but now that the boys are fully back in her life, this was a great opportunity,” the source said.
Spears is reportedly “very close” with her sons and it’s “amazing” to be reunited with them over the past year.
“Being able to spend all this time with their mom has been truly amazing for the kids. Britney loves them both equally. They are her whole world,” the source said, adding that Spears being able to spend quality time with her sons is an “absolute gift” and “greatest joy” for her at this time.
Spears was said to have been “constantly in touch” with her children, and having them living in Los Angeles has allowed them to become even closer.
“They’re here because he’s her son and that’s what they want to be, and they just want what’s best for her. It was 100 percent Britney’s decision to go to rehab,” the source explained.
“Especially now, she’s in full contact with her sons and they have such a great relationship,” the source continued. “It’s really important to her that she can be the best mother and daughter and person she can be.”
The “Toxic” singer is currently single and is said to be finding time to “focus on himself” as he is not working on any pressing work projects.
“The whole family supports her. This is her rebirth. This is her reset,” the source said. “This is something she’s wanted for a really long time.”
Our source isn’t sure what Spears will do after completing her rehab period, but said, “The world is her oyster.”
“She doesn’t have a plan in place. It’s very important that Britney doesn’t come out of rehab and suddenly have all this extra work to do,” the source said. “The most important thing is that she can have the space and time she needs to feel fully herself again.”
Spears’ children have been very supportive of this process, but it was not immediately clear whether they plan to visit their mother in a rehab facility.
“She just went into the hospital, so she’s currently spending time with a counselor and figuring out what she needs to feel 100 percent better,” the source explained. “DUI aside, she was going to go to rehab now.”
Page Six previously reported that Spears, 44, was arrested on March 5th for drunk driving.
Over the weekend, a representative for the “Crossroads” actress confirmed to Page Six that Spears voluntarily entered rehab for substance abuse. A source said it was “her own choice” to check into a treatment facility.
She, who is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, had sought treatment after her sons allegedly intervened on behalf of their famous mother.
Just before she checked in, she and her kids were spotted enjoying a day on the boat together.
Spears shares her children with ex-husband Kevin Federline. The former backup dancer’s attorney confirmed that Federline was “satisfied” that Spears was getting the help she needed.
