Throughout its 54-year history, “The Price Is Right” had never aired a live episode until this fall. CBS said Wednesday that it has ordered a one-hour special, “The Price Is Right Live,” to air during the holiday season. Drew Carey will host.
“‘The Drew Carey Show’ actually airs live episodes, and he loves what he does,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said Wednesday at a press conference announcing CBS’ fall schedule. “I definitely couldn’t have done it without him!”
Reisenbach said the producers of “The Price is Right” came to the network with “a really fun proposal that we looked at that justified it. We challenged them and we really liked the idea, but how can we make it unique and specific and not feel like a taped episode?” And they have some really fun ideas they’re implementing to bring viewers into that live experience. I think the prizes are what draws people in, the joy of seeing people win. And during the holiday season, I said, There’s nothing more fun for everyone than watching people win prizes live. ”
Among other specials announced Wednesday, CBS also revealed that this fall, for the first time in kudocast’s nearly 40 years (launched in March 1987), the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will be simulcast with sister kids cable station Nickelodeon.
Meanwhile, for the second year in a row, CBS will also simulcast the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27th at 8pm ET.
Additionally, “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” will air on December 31 at 8:00 PM ET and 10:30 PM ET, and the 84th Golden Globe Awards, with host Nikki Glazer returning for the third time, will air on Sunday, January 10, 2027 at 8:00 PM ET.
