Screenplay Films has given the go-ahead to adapt the Indonesian horror series “Zona Mera”, which received a huge response from audiences upon its debut, into a feature film.
Production is scheduled to run from April to May 2026, with filming to begin on April 7th.
Sidhartha Tata and Fajar Marta Santosa will co-direct the film, with Tata also returning as a screenwriter. Santosa will oversee the entire development process, with the aim of bringing greater coherence to the story as it transitions from series to feature format.
Several cast members from the original series will reprise their roles, including Agnini Haq, Andri Mashadi, Maria Theodore, Devano, and Lukman Sardi. They are joined by new additions like Luna Maya, Brian Domani, Cindy Huang, Mischa Lin, and Darby Romero, who play fresh characters who enter the story’s world of zombie survival.
This feature expands the world into darker, more unforgiving territory, with more complex conflicts and deeper character work. Survival against the undead threat becomes a more desperate and relentless proposition than the series allows.
Luna Maya will play a dual role in the project, starring in the film as well as serving as an executive producer. “As Executive Producer, I see great potential for Zonamera, not only creatively, but also in terms of its position within the industry. This is an important step in taking the local IP to the next level, both in terms of production scale and viewership,” she said.
“Zona Mera already has a strong foundation in world-building and storytelling for the series. With this film, we aim to take everything to the next level, emotionally, in terms of the scale of the conflict, and in terms of the overall visual experience. We want audiences to feel the danger in their theater seats. It will be darker and more disturbing than anything we have made before,” added director Sidhartha Tata.
