“Burn Notice” star Jeffrey Donovan has no plans to return to Los Angeles.
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the 57-year-old actor talked about moving to Colorado after meeting his wife on the set of one of his projects.
“I met my future wife while I was finishing up work. She’s from Colorado, and once I started visiting there, I never stopped,” he explained. “This is an incredible state. I’m raising my children there and I have no intention of ever leaving.”
Donovan met his wife Michelle Woods in 2011, and the two tied the knot a year later in August 2012 in a small ceremony in Santa Barbara, California.
Since their marriage, the couple has had three children: Claire, Lucas, and Ethan. The actor and his wife are raising their children in Colorado, but he says Colorado, a true sunny state, should be called the “Thunderstorm State,” not Florida.
“Colorado is secretly the Sunshine State,” he says. “This is a beautiful part of the country that probably gets more sunshine than Arizona or New Mexico. It’s incredible. That’s why we’re there. And we can live really healthy lives.”
The “Sicario” star said that although he grew up in Boston, many of his friends now live in Los Angeles and are raising their children there.
Although he misses his friends, they all agree that raising children is “tough work,” and being in Colorado makes it easier, he said.
“I feel like it’s not as difficult in Colorado, which suits my parenting talents,” Donovan explained. “If it wasn’t hard to raise kids in Colorado, that’s where I want to be.”
The actor first gained national attention with his breakout role in 2007’s “Burn Notice.” In the show, he played Michael Westen, a blacklisted former CIA operative who, without any of his usual connections or resources, tried to figure out who was behind the burn notices and why.
He appeared on the show for seven seasons and also directed several episodes.
In November 2017, he said, “I feel very lucky to have this show, but I also know that at the time it was the toughest job I’ve ever had.” “It was tough, but I look back on it and think that if I hadn’t taken that job, if I hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have met my future wife and I wouldn’t have had the privilege of having three beautiful children,” he said.
Donovan currently stars in The Faithful, a trilogy series that tells the story of Genesis from the perspective of the five women at the center of the story.
The actor appeared on the show as Abraham, one of the most iconic characters in the Bible, and told Fox News Digital that taking on the role would be a “huge change.”
“There’s a part in the first hour where I actually talk to God and Minnie[Driver]plays Sarah and I, and to be honest, I was lost,” he recalled. “I felt the enormity and the pressure of how to convey to an audience of people who want to talk to God, or who have talked to God, or who want to believe that God exists, that I was literally talking to God. And I really felt that pressure.”
Donovan also credited co-star Driver for putting him in the right mindset, saying, “She grabbed me” and told him, “Enough is enough.” Donovan said, “It was really powerful to feel that connection.”
When portraying Abraham and Sarah’s marriage, Donovan said, “I tried to approach it as realistically as possible,” adding that playing a couple who have been married for many years reinforced the idea that “marriage is complicated.”
“That’s difficult. If you and your partner, whoever it is, can come to some kind of agreement that we’re in this for the long term, that if you’re blessed enough to have children, our children are even more important than you. “And if you can put all your eggs in that basket, ‘We are the providers, we are their educators, they learn humanity from us.’ If you do it on that premise, I think your children and your families will be okay in the end,” he said.
