Disney+ and Spain’s RTVE have signed a deal for a selection of the public broadcaster’s most successful programs, including “MasterChief,” one of the most iconic and most-watched culinary talent shows on Spanish television.
The deal, which begins March 31, expands the entertainment offering available to Disney+ customers, while providing RTVE with new distribution slots to expand the reach of its content and connect with new, younger audiences across Spain.
Among the RTVE titles that will be included in the Disney+ catalog is “MasterChef,” produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia, part of the Banijay Group.
Disney+ will premiere 13 episodes of Season 14 of the hit show and 12 episodes of Season 11 of MasterChef Celebrity, which will be available on Disney+ after airing on La 1, RTVE’s public television division TVE’s flagship channel.
The agreement marks the first time in Europe that a national broadcaster has agreed to make its programs available on Disney+ immediately after linear broadcast.
The collaboration between Disney+ and RTVE is also expanding into scripted content, including the new series “Rojo Sobre Blanco,” produced by Good Mood, a Media One subsidiary, which will premiere on TVE and then on Disney+. Other titles will be announced at a later date.
RTVE joins international free-to-air broadcasters that Disney+ works closely with across Europe, from Spain’s Atresmedia to the UK’s ITVX, Germany’s ARD and ZDF, and Portugal’s SIC, “underscoring our shared commitment to championing and supporting local storytelling,” Disney+ said.
Each collaboration is tailored to local needs and offers more regional storytelling to complement Disney+’s global catalog, while helping broadcasters reach younger audiences.
“RTVE has a rich tradition of great programming spanning decades and is loved by audiences in Spain,” said Carl Holmes, General Manager, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Disney+. “Through this agreement, we are excited to bring some of the most iconic new programming from RTVE, one of the most popular and recognized formats on Spanish television, to Disney+ customers.
“Bringing these programs to Disney+ strengthens our ambitions to enrich our offering, while also providing further recognition for the extraordinary creative talent across Spain. We look forward to starting this journey with RTVE and are confident this will lead to many more collaborative projects.”
Disney+ said the deal strengthens its commitment to Spanish audiovisual production and talent, enriching its offering with formats that have strong cultural and social impact.
For RTVE, this agreement also reflects our efforts to maximize the visibility of our content through strategic collaborations with global platforms.
Indeed, both companies aim to continue exploring new synergies that will contribute to the growth and strengthening of their editorial and audiovisual strategies.
The RTVE agreement builds on a growing portfolio of free-to-air collaborations between Disney+ and Europe’s leading broadcasters. Disney+ is also expanding its footprint in Spain with a major content sharing agreement with Atresmedia, which offers more than 300 hours of premium Spanish-language programming.
Last year, Disney announced its first content deal in the UK with ITVX, bringing carefully selected programming from each platform to new complementary audiences and driving increased discovery.
