Sarah Michelle Gellar claimed her 23-year marriage to Freddie Prinze Jr. remains intact as they share a bedroom but not a bathroom.
The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actress told People magazine in an interview published Wednesday that having “one bedroom and two bathrooms” saves the famous couple from having “a lot of little fights.”
“It doesn’t have to be as fancy as having two bathrooms in a bedroom!” she clarified to the outlet. “I wish there was another toilet.”
She also revealed that she and Prinze, 50, have been enjoying a “quieter life and a more private life” since their marriage in 2002.
“We are allowed to live in it,” she continued. “And our fans really respect that.”
They also started a family after meeting on the set of 2000’s I Know What You Did Last Summer. Together, they are quietly raising daughter Charlotte, 16, and son Rocky, 13.
“I always say I’m two people: I’m Sarah Michelle Gellar and I’m Sarah Prinze,” Geller, 48, said elsewhere in the interview. “They’re different people.”
Geller’s comments come in the wake of the catastrophic cancellation of the Buffy reboot, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, for which the pilot episode had already been filmed.
The actress later told Page Six Radio that the show’s executives were “not fans of the original series” and that she hoped it never leaked.
“Because then everyone has an opinion on this and that,” she explained. “And the pilot isn’t over yet. It’s not over.”
However, it appears that his marriage to Prinze will continue.
In a more serious interview with Fox News Digital in 2024, Geller lamented that we live in a “very disposable society” that treats marriage as something to throw away rather than something to fix. This is an ideology she rejects.
“I think everything requires effort on your part, whether it’s a friendship, a work relationship, or a marriage,” she told the outlet. “I have to get to work.”
Prinze, on the other hand, agrees. “We’re working on it,” he told Variety last July.
