Matthew Knowles is “considering all legal remedies” after a video disparaging his ex-wife’s work went viral.
In a leaked interview video released by PIX 11 on Monday, PIX 11 newscaster Kendis Gibson told Knowles that Tina Knowles was instrumental in the success of her daughter Beyoncé’s band Destiny’s Child, to which Matthew flatly replied, “What effort did she put in?”
The clip quickly went viral, with Sherri Shepherd discussing it on her daytime show, Lauren LoRosa and her co-hosts Charlamagne the God and DJ Envy dissecting it on “The Breakfast Club,” and 50 Cent drawing laughs online.
Gibson interviewed Matthew on his show Candid with Kendis, and at the end of the conversation, Gibson told Matthew that he thought he and Tina had “bloomed” through their unrelenting dedication to the Say My Name band.
“You guys did a great job,” he said.
“What kind of work did she do?” asked Matthew.
Shocked, Gibson replied, “It’s the hair.”
Knowles said he was simply seeking clarity from Gibson. “I don’t do interviews…I have conversations,” he said.
“I didn’t know what he meant by that. So I just want to calmly say, ‘What effort did she make?’ It was a question. I don’t know how it became a comment, but it was a question,” he said.
After Gibson mentioned that Tina was in charge of the band’s hair, Matthew added her role in styling the girls.
“Tina didn’t just do the hair…she styled it and built the image of ‘Destiny’s Child’…it’s so much more than just someone doing the hair,” he told us.
The whole situation confused Matthew. “If someone disrespected Tina’s work and just said she did my hair, I’d come back and say, no, she did the styling. Isn’t that me giving the flowers?” he said.
“I’m really perplexed by all of this,” he added. “I can’t even find the negative comments I said about Tina. So, I don’t understand… People always try to trick us against each other. There was a complete misrepresentation here, and I’m considering all legal remedies at this time,” he said.
He claims he has a “great relationship” with Tina and refuses to call her his ex-wife. “That’s a negative word… I’ve never called Tina my ex-wife. I’m always positive. She’s my ex-wife and I honor her by not saying ex-wife,” he said.
Mathews previously said he cut off the interview because Gibson arrived late and had other press commitments. Despite the backlash he received in the interview, Matthew said he was in Houston “just having a hard time” and “having fun doing it.”
He is promoting the Destiny’s Child: Iconic Reimagined Tribute Concert, scheduled to take place on March 27th in Nashville, Tennessee.
