Prince Harry reportedly contacted his estranged brother Prince William through an intermediary, but Prince William refused to speak to him.
Royal author and expert Omid Scobie told Us Weekly on Tuesday that Prince Harry’s failed attempt to reconcile with Prince William happened around the time he was writing his 2023 book, Endgame.
“I was having conversations with people who were very close to Harry, and one of the things that was shared with me was that Harry was hoping that he could reach out to an intermediary between him and his brother, a mutual friend, and maybe have some kind of conversation together, either with someone else there or through some means,” Scobie said.
However, the conversation between the royal brothers “didn’t happen.”
“That was totally unacceptable,” Scobie explained. “So, looking from the outside now, it looks like that stone wall is still there.
“Unless attitudes on both sides change, we will never find a way to a solution,” he added.
Prince William, 43, and Prince Harry, 41, have been estranged since 2020, when the latter resigned from royal duties and moved to the United States with wife Meghan Markle.
In Russell Myers’ new book William and Catherine: A New Era for the Monarchy: The Inside Story, the author claims Prince William was “deeply saddened” by Prince Harry’s decision to flee Britain.
“He and Harry had been estranged for years, and now he knew deep down there was no going back,” Myers wrote.
Myers added that the brothers’ “happy memories” of their childhood, including helping each other overcome the death of their mother, Princess Diana, and growing up in the public eye, “have now been tainted by the division at the heart of their family.”
Meanwhile, Myers claimed that Middleton was “less interested than her husband in persuading Prince Harry to remain in his current role.”
The Princess of Wales also believed it was “inevitable” for Prince Harry to step down from his role, it said.
The Duke of Sussex most recently spoke about his estrangement from his family in an interview with the BBC in May 2025.
“There have been so many differences between myself and some members of my family,” Prince Harry told the outlet, adding that he has since “forgiven” them.
Prince Harry then reunited with his father Charles III during a visit to London in September.
The two had an hour-long meeting at the cancer-stricken monarch’s London residence, Clarence House.
Harry did not see William while he was abroad.
