Wunmi Mosaku won’t be able to enjoy Oscar nomination due to death of Renee Goode and Alex Preti

Sinners star Wunmi Mosaku recently told The Sunday Times that she has not been able to enjoy her recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination because of the deaths of two Americans, Alex Preti and Renee Goode, who were shot dead by federal agents in Minnesota.

“We couldn’t celebrate because of what’s going on right now with the murder of Renee Good and Alex Preti by ICE agents in Minnesota and the kidnapping of a 5-year-old boy,” Mosaku said. “It’s hard to hold on to both the nominations and the news because at the same time it feels beautiful, it also feels so dark and heavy. It’s so dystopian. How can I go out and get a drink and enjoy this moment?”

She added, “[My husband]isn’t as shocked as I am when he hears the news. There’s this very strange American mentality where something terrible happens and people can still go to work the next day. I, on the other hand, have been depressed for a week and think, ‘How do people go to crowded places when something like this just happened?'” I want a cocoon. My reaction reminded him that this was not normal. ”

Mosaku is not the only Hollywood voice speaking out against ICE and Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. On February 5, Jamie Lee Curtis told Variety that “the situation with ICE is out of control.” She denounced the actions of federal officials in Minnesota and beyond as “abhorrent conduct.”

“Every day I thought I would never be in shock again, and then I am,” Curtis said. “It’s just inhumane. The way this administration treats its citizens, voters, people in need is inhumane. What they’re doing is abhorrent. The situation at ICE is out of control. They’re just trying to keep us from paying attention to the Epstein file.”

Whoopi Goldberg became visibly emotional on the Jan. 26 episode of The View as she criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino over Preti’s death.

“Mr. Kristi Noem, this cannot be justified. Mr. Bovino, this cannot be justified,” she said. “You can’t justify one or the other. We all see it and we see you for what you are. You all have blood on your hands.”
