Wiz Khalifa announced to X the death of his father, Lawrence W. Thomas, writing, “Today my father has decided not to wake up.”
“I will always love him, miss him, and be grateful for all he taught me. Like a true yogi, he went out in peace and on his own time. I love you forever, Lawrence W. Thomas.”
According to TMZ, Thomas was 63 years old.
Page Six has reached out to Khalifa’s representatives for comment.
In a follow-up post, Khalifa added, “Although my father’s death was sudden, it makes me happy to see so many people love and respect him. I know he was proud of the positive impact he left on this earth. He was literally everything he ever wanted.”
“The last conversation I had with my dad was him telling me how proud he was of the movie I did, and I promised to do more. LT Forever,” the 38-year-old artist said.
Khalifa (real name Cameron Jibril Thomas) expressed her gratitude to her followers, writing on X: “Thank you all for your kind words. They really mean something and make me feel better during this difficult time.”
On Instagram, the hitmaker posted a throwback photo with his father on his Instagram Story.
In one photo, she was seen helping her father get on a swing. He simply wrote below the shot, “I love you, big guy.”
Another image showed a young Khalifa with her father and brother Dorien “Lara” Thomas, who passed away in 2017.
“My baby was doing great,” the Grammy nominee said of her father, adding, “You and Lala are together again,” along with a prayer emoji.
Khalifa has been open about his strong bond with his father over the years, telling NME in 2016 that Thomas laid the foundation for his future career by starting his own recording studio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“I first started rapping when I was in second grade,” he recalls. “I grew up in a poor neighborhood. We didn’t have a lot of money, so I always listened to the radio. One day my uncle pulled out a paper and started reading it, and it was rap. I was shocked, because I didn’t know that not only the people on the radio could rap, but we could rap as well.”
“I lived in that studio, and it made me who I am today,” elaborated Khalifa, a father of two.
The “See You Again” artist has a 12-year-old son, Sebastian, with ex-wife Amber Rose. The two were married from 2013 to 2016.
Khalifa welcomed his daughter Cadence with girlfriend Amy Aguilar in July 2024.
Khalifa spoke candidly about fatherhood when he appeared on an episode of the podcast Call Her Daddy in 2024.
“It helped me figure out what I’m really good at and what I’m really here for,” he explained to host Alex Cooper. “I’m a musician, and if you asked me what my purpose was before I had children, I would have said, ‘To be an entertainer! To be on that stage!'” Now I truly understand that this is my gift. And we also understand that we have to work hard to make it what it is. ”
Khalifa added: “But becoming a father comes naturally. There are no books or people to teach you how to be a great father. My son comes up to me regularly and says, ‘You’re such a good father, Dad.'” Or, “I love you very much. ”
he said: “As a parent, it’s really, really rewarding.”
