“Sinners” is now part of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood.
New exhibits featuring the costumes of Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan), Sammy (Miles Caton), and Annie (Wunmi Mosaku) are all on display. Set elements, props and prosthetics will also be on display, allowing guests to step into the world of Clarksville and Club Juke.
Costume designer Ruth E. Carter previously spoke to Variety about her approach to her work. She focused on the Mississippi Delta and “how people turn suffering into joy. That was so obvious to me to portray.” Migration patterns were also considered in her work. “I started thinking about the plantation system and how Bruce[musicians]move around to different plantations in the South.” Red and blue were key to the film’s palette.
The exhibit kicks off the Studio Tour’s “Stage 48: From Script to Screen” section and will be on view until March 31st.
The suit worn by Jordan on display was made from wool. In the film, the twins return from Chicago in the early 1930s, which leads Carter to focus on photographs of Chicago gangsters of the time. “The suit fabric was always wool.”
As for Sammy, to Carter he represented the sharecroppers, but he also represented hope. Carter explained, “His color palette was different from the reds and blues of the rest of the cast, it was more organic and realistic.” Sammy’s clothes were damaged and had brown and gold tones. “His clothes were a little more weathered,” she added. “His costume had a lot of character built into it. It was great because it represented a boy who wanted to look like Stacks, with his guitar straps making his vest fall off and wearing a fedora.”
Also on display is the 1932 Dobro Cyclops resonator guitar played by Sammy in the film and used by composer Ludwig Göransson to perform the score.
Tours are held daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Ticket details are available at http://www.wbstudiotour.com. This also includes special, limited-time discounts for Southern California residents.
