Marc Anthony has broken his silence on the Beckham family feud after his name came up in the drama.
The 57-year-old singer is a close friend of the Beckham family, and Brooklyn named him in a brutal attack on his parents David and Victoria, referring to his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz.
Anthony called the Beckham family feud “unfortunate.”
“They’re a wonderful, wonderful family,” Anthony said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Monday. “I’ve known these kids since before they were born. I’m Cruise’s godfather. I’m very close to the family.”
“But I have nothing to say about what happened there. It’s very unfortunate how things turned out, but it’s hardly true,” he added.
In a shocking public statement shared on her Instagram Story in January, Brooklyn claimed that her mother “hijacked” her first dance with Peltz at their wedding reception and then “danced very inappropriately” on her, making her feel “uncomfortable” and “humiliated.”
“Marc Anthony called me on stage in front of 500 wedding guests. The schedule was for a romantic dance with my wife, but instead he waited for my mom to dance with me,” Brooklyn wrote.
A source later told Page Six that the moment in question wasn’t the couple’s first dance, but instead happened when Anthony took the stage to perform after the couple, their families, and other guests had been dancing for a while.
The Grammy Award-winning singer was expected to introduce Brooklyn, 26, and Peltz, 31, before dancing on a specially constructed stage.
“This was supposed to be a big, romantic first dance,” said a second wedding official. “It was preordained for Nicola and Brooklyn.”
Instead, Anthony calls Brooklyn and decides to dance with “the most beautiful woman in the room” – Victoria, not the bride.
The first guest told Page Six that Victoria “got on stage and put her arm around Brooklyn” and “nuzzled his neck.”
“She was dancing with him so inappropriately. She stole that moment from Nicola. That’s God’s truth.”
The guest added: “Nicola ran off crying. Beckham’s side of the room was cheering, but Peltz’s side was quiet.”
Brooklyn said in a statement that she did not want to reconcile with her family.
Since then, his siblings Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, have put up a united front to support their parents.
Romeo unveiled a new tattoo on the back of his neck on Sunday that reads “Family,” an astute choice after Brooklyn’s decision to cover up the tattoo on his right arm that he dedicated to his father and the ink on his finger that he once dedicated to his brothers.
