Savannah Guthrie’s husband, Michael Feldman, has broken his silence about the disappearance of his mother-in-law, Nancy Guthrie.
Feldman, 57, exclusively told Page Six on Tuesday morning that he has “nothing new to report” in the frantic search for Nancy.
The public relations communications consultant added that she was “just responding” but felt “of little use” in the heartbreaking situation.
But Feldman thanked the media for their “thoughtfulness.”
Nancy, who lives alone in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, has not been seen since Saturday night.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said the 84-year-old man had gone out to dinner with his family, including his daughter Annie Guthrie, and was brought back to his home around 9:30 or 9:45 p.m.
Nanos told Us Weekly that Annie, 56, didn’t notice any “red flags” about her mother’s behavior throughout the evening.
Around 11 a.m. the next morning, a parishioner from Nancy’s church called the family to inform them that she had not attended that morning’s service, which was unusual, Nanos explained at a press conference.
The family then went to Nancy’s home to look for her and called 911 around 12:15 p.m.
“This is an 84-year-old woman, safe in her home, sleeping, and being taken away. That should never have happened,” Nanos told Us Weekly, adding that Savannah “didn’t express any concerns” about her mother’s health before her disappearance.
According to her family, she has “physical ailments” and mobility issues that prevent her from walking more than 50 yards on her own, but she is of “very sound mind” and has “sharp insight,” making it unlikely that she “just wandered around.”
However, Nancy takes medication every day, and missing it could lead to fatal consequences. Remarkably, all of her medication was left behind, along with her cell phone, wallet, keys, and car.
Nanos said a search of the home revealed to investigators that they were viewing a crime scene. Nanos called the findings “deeply disturbing” and “inherently questionable,” adding that he believed Nancy was “kidnapped” and “harmed” in the process.
He did not elaborate on possible injuries, but law enforcement officials told the Los Angeles Times that blood was found inside the home, indicating signs of forced entry by an unknown party.
Nanos also told CNN that there is no indication that this is a ransom situation, but stressed that investigators would “never rule it out.”
Savannah, 54, missed Monday and Tuesday’s “Today” show to join her family in the search for her mother. She sent a statement which was read out and thanked everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support.
The beloved broadcast journalist, who married Ms. Feldman in March 2014, later asked for prayers and guidance on Instagram, holding out hope and faith that her mother would be returned safely.
Page Six exclusively reported that Savannah, who shares daughter Vale, 11, and son Charlie, 9, with Feldman, will be stepping down from hosting the opening ceremony of the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics, along with Terry Gannon.
She was scheduled to fly to Italy on Friday, but NBC officials said that was “unlikely.”
Savannah has always had a great relationship with her mother, but the two became even closer after her father and Nancy’s husband, Charles Guthrie, died when she was a teenager.
In addition to Savannah and Annie, Nancy and Charles also had a son, Camron Guthrie, 61.
