Following the death of Catherine O’Hara on Friday at the age of 71, Seth Rogen and the rest of the cast of “The Studio” have pulled out of a scheduled Apple TV event.
A press day is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, but Deadline reported on Saturday that “The Studio” will no longer be in attendance.
Stars Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn and Chase Sui Wonders were scheduled to attend the press day at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Mr. O’Hara was not scheduled to attend.
“We are all heartbroken by the loss of Catherine O’Hara,” Apple and Lionsgate said in a joint statement to the media.
Page Six has requested comment.
The statement continued: “An undeniable legend, an icon and a unique talent, Katharine elevated every project she worked on, including the singular genius she brought to her role on The Studio and every transcendent performance she gave us.”
“The Studio,” which Rogen created and starred in, first aired in March and has been renewed for a second season. The comedy series satirizes the entertainment industry, with Rogen playing a studio executive whose desire to create works of art often conflicts with the demands of commercial work. O’Hara played his mentor, an ousted former executive.
The show swept the Emmys and Golden Globes.
Mr. O’Hara died Friday at the age of 71. Her cause of death has not yet been revealed, but a representative for Creative Artists Agency confirmed to Page Six that she passed away “after a short illness.”
It is not clear whether her diagnosis played a role in her death, but Ms. O’Hara suffered from inverse sitting, a rare disorder in which the arrangement of internal organs is a mirror image of normal anatomy.
The “Schitt’s Creek” actress leaves behind her husband of 33 years, Beau Welch, and two sons, Matthew, 31, and Luke, 29.
After her death, Barinholtz posted on Instagram, “Never in a million years did I think I would get to work with Catherine O’Hara…so sad…so grateful to have had the chance to spend time with her.”
Rogen also spoke out in an Instagram post on Friday.
“I really don’t know what to say…When I first met O’Hara, I told her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever seen on screen,” he wrote, adding that her early work on “Home Alone” inspired him and that it was an “honour” to work with her.
He added, “She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… She made me want to create a show worthy of her presence. This is truly shocking.”
