Bangkok-based Mbrella Films has begun production on its first American movie thriller, Blood on the Ice, currently filming on location in central Illinois.
The project will be co-produced with IB Films and will be helmed by director Justin Hayward, with Adam Play serving as producer. Kelly Garner (The Aviator, Lars) leads the cast, and co-stars Jake Connelly (Stranger Things) and former Chicago Bears defensive end Israel Idonije. Stephen Fletcher and Darren Weninger will serve as executive producers.
The character-driven thriller takes place against the backdrop of a harsh Midwestern winter and uses the extreme environment as a key dramatic element. Post-production will take place in Thailand under the supervision of Mbrella Films.
“We are very pleased that Mbrella Films can support this project as these types of films are becoming increasingly difficult to produce,” said Pray. “Blood on Ice is a lean film with a strong creative vision, offering a deep exploration of character in a fascinating setting.”
Hayward added, “This story is rooted in its location and its pressures. The Midwestern winter is more than just a backdrop; it actively shapes the tone of the film and the decisions the characters make.”
“This film is our first feature film produced in the United States, and we believe it will form the basis for future U.S.-Thailand co-productions,” said Joshua Dixon, CEO of Mbrella Films.
Mbrella Films provides production and post-production services for international feature films and television projects, while developing unique original content. The company received a strategic investment from Friday Industries in 2025 as part of its international expansion efforts.
