What you need to know

Carlos Alcaraz is the second eldest of four children, all of whom play tennis. His older brother Alvaro works as a hitting coach and they travel to many tournaments together. The tennis pro says he loves being an older brother to his younger brothers Sergio and Jaime.

Carlos Alcaraz isn’t the only tennis player in his family. Just ask his brothers Alvaro, Sergio and Jaime.

Born in May 2003 to Carlos Alcaraz González and Virginia Gulfia Escandon, the consecutive Wimbledon champion is the second oldest of four children.

According to the New York Times, all of Alcaraz’s children inherited their love of the sport from their father, who was a nationally ranked tennis player as a teenager and later worked as tennis director for the club his grandfather founded.

As Carlos stated in a February 2023 Vogue interview, he was born with “tennis in his blood.” It turns out his brothers were too.

According to their ATP profile, Alvaro plays competitive doubles and Jaime grew up in competitive tennis, winning the Rafa Nadal Tour event in July 2023. ATP noted that Carlos took home the same trophy.

According to Spanish broadcaster Onda Regional, Sergio loves soccer and has been playing in Real Murcia’s youth team since 2024. However, he plans to play tennis recreationally, even scoring points against his professional brother, as seen in a July 2025 clip shared with X by journalist Germán R. Abril.

Here’s everything you need to know about Carlos Alcaraz’s brothers, Alvaro, Sergio and Jaime.

they are from spain

Carlos and his siblings have poor roots in El Palmar, Spain, and grew up without “great luxuries,” Carlos previously said.

“But the little things make a difference… (we) had what we needed,” he said at an event in December 2024, according to the Daily Express. “I was always happy with what I had…I was particularly passionate about sports and tennis, but it was a pretty normal childhood. Today, we’re here and I feel very lucky and grateful.”

Carlos told the Times in June 2024 that his older brother was his hitting partner. Almost two years later, it was announced that Alvaro would take a more prominent role within the team after parting ways with long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

In January 2026, he told Punt de Braek: “My brother is a very important person in my personal and professional life.” “He brought me a lot of positive things that I needed to perform better on the court and in tournaments.”

He continued, “From now on he’s going to be more visible…He knows how we operate, how the tour works, he knows a lot about tennis. Sometimes he has an opinion or a way of looking at things that gives me a lot.”

Carlos said he loves being an older brother.

The Grand Slam champion has a close relationship with Alvaro, but does not take his role as older brother to Sergio and Jaime lightly. Because to them, he is “not a big tennis star, just an ordinary guy.”

“I love tennis, but I love being a big brother to little kids even more. Being a role model for them, not just as a tennis player, but as a person. That’s the most important thing. Helping kids learn about the important things in life,” he told The Times in June 2024.

Jaime is a budding tennis star

Alcaraz’s youngest brother has already made a name for himself in the world of competitive tennis. In July 2023, Jaime won the U-12 division of the Rafa Nadal Tour in Madrid. He finished first out of 48 players in a junior tennis tournament,

Carlos competed in the same tournament seven years ago, winning the under-12 division in 2015 and the under-14 division in 2016. Jaime has also been invited twice to the IMG Future Stars Invitational Tournament, an invitation-only event featuring 48 of the best youth male and female tennis players from around the world. Jaime was also spotted on the Wimbledon practice court with Carlos in 2023.

When asked about his brother’s burgeoning career in January 2025, Carlos said he would “support him” wherever he is in the world.

“I’m very happy to see my brother play in these tournaments, just like I played when I was his age,” he told reporters, according to Tennis.com. “I’m just trying to support him, support him and (take away) all the pressure that people put on him. I’m so happy to see him grow and become…like a grown man.”

Carlos said Alvaro made him a “better person.”

Although Alvaro no longer plays competitive tennis, he remains close to his brother who competes at the highest level and often accompanies Carlos on his travels.

And while Alvaro has been there for his brother’s big wins, including Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, he has also been by his brother’s losses. Alvaro was in the stands when his brother lost a hard-fought match to Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Cincinnati Masters final. The two shared an emotional exchange during Carlos’ speech at the post-match trophy ceremony.

“My brother is here too,” Alcaraz said with tears in his eyes. “It’s great that you’re here supporting me every day and learning from you so that I can be a better person every day. Thank you so much for being with me.”

Carlos jokingly blamed his brother for his controversial hairstyle

In August 2025, Carlos debuted a new and much-talked-about haircut, leaving fans almost in shock. He later told reporters that one of his brothers was responsible for his change in appearance.

“My brother misunderstood the machine, he just cut it,” Carlos told reporters, according to footage shared on X. “And the only way to fix it is to shave…To be honest, it’s not that good. I don’t think it’s that bad.”
