Alexander Skarsgård was accompanied by his father on his debut as a host on “Saturday Night Live.”
Skarsgard has been stoic about what’s going on with his career. He didn’t mention his new movies Pillion or The Moment during his monologue, during which he mimed playing the saxophone with the SNL band.
Then, in a skit that seemed to poke fun at Stellan Skarsgård’s success with this year’s Sentimental Value, Alexander and Chloe Fineman played the cast of a Scandinavian drama (titled The Smell of Family) and couldn’t help but pause between takes to laugh at the absurdity of the story and their situation. The character’s father, who wants to die, lies in the bathtub, waiting to say goodbye. When the two enter the bathroom, they find Stellan hidden under the water with a fake Incredible Hulk prop in his hand. He delivered the final joke of the scene, pumping his Hulk fist into the air to completely break the tension.
See the sketch below.
Stellan proved to be contrary to his image there, and in a skit mocking the customs of immigrant parents, Alexander played the stoic Finn, whose only memory of affection from his father was when he accidentally touched his knee in the sauna. At the end of the sketch, her real-life father joined in and yelled, “Shame is yours! Embrace your shame and live with it!”
The episode’s musical guest, Cardi B, also appeared in the sketch, playing the wife of Marcello Hernandez’s character. Wearing a wig with rollers, Cardi grabbed a cigarette from Hernandez’s hand and asserted herself as a possible future host.
