Catherine O’Hara’s Home Alone co-star Macaulay Culkin has reacted to the sad news of her death.
The Emmy Award-winning actress’ manager confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday, January 30, that she had passed away at the age of 71. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
In the 1990 holiday classic film Home Alone, O’Hara played a mother who accidentally leaves her son, played by Culkin, at home. The two also co-starred in the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
“Mom, I thought there was still time,” the on-screen star’s son wrote in a sweet tribute on his Instagram.
“I wanted more. I wanted to sit in the chair next to you. I heard your voice, but there was so much more I wanted to say,” she captioned a photo of herself and O’Hara from Home Alone in 2023. “I love you. See you soon.”

Culkin, 45, has previously called O’Hara a motherly figure, recalling how they worked together on Home Alone and its sequel when O’Hara was just 10 years old.
The Canadian star cheered Culkin on at the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in December 2023, marveling at how Culkin was “older than me when I played her mother.”
“Home Alone was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation…It’s because of Macaulay Culkin that families around the world can’t go through a year without watching and loving Home Alone together,” she said that day.
O’Hara and her husband Beau Welch once experienced a real-life Home Alone-like scare with their sons Matthew and Luke (now adults). “We were in New York once, I think it was New York,” the Schitt’s Creek star told PEOPLE in January 2024.
“Bo and I got on the subway and I turned around and the doors were closing and the lights weren’t on…I screamed, and people screamed with me,” she recalled. Then the door opened again and the boys joined their parents. “I feel sick thinking about what happened,” O’Hara said.
No further details about O’Hara’s death were released. She leaves behind her husband and children.
