A party crasher was arrested Friday for allegedly assaulting Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost during CAA’s Sundance Film Festival gala at the High West Saloon in Park City.
According to a party official at a talent agency, the man is white and was involved in a racist incident that occurred in the restroom of a restaurant. He appeared to shock others by talking in the bathroom about how proud he was to be “white.” He then allegedly punched Frost after he left the facility. Security guards restrained the man and police later took him into custody.
A Park City Police Department spokesperson identified the man as Christian Young in a statement. A department spokesperson said officers arrived at the High West Saloon just after midnight Friday and investigated and determined that Young had “unlawfully attended a private party” after being turned away because he did not have an invitation.
“Once inside the salon, Young assaulted a woman who was attending a private event with Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost,” a police statement said.
Young was booked into the Summit County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery and two counts of simple assault, a police spokesperson said.
After the incident was reported on Saturday, Mr. Frost, a Florida Democrat, posted on X that he was the victim of the alleged attack. “Last night at Sundance, a man assaulted me and told me he was going to deport President Trump before punching me in the face,” he wrote. “I heard someone shouting racist remarks as he ran away drunk. He was arrested, but I’m fine.”
CAA has a big presence at Sundance, as many of its clients’ projects premiere at the festival, and the company has been asked to help find distribution for several independent films that premiere in Park City. A CAA spokesperson declined to comment on the incident.
This year’s Sundance will be the last to be held in Park City. The festival will move to Colorado in 2027.
