Beyoncé’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, celebrates her 14th birthday today. While the Cowboy Carter singer privately celebrated the milestone of the birth of his first child, his mother Tina Knowles paid tribute to Blue on Instagram with photos from his life.
In her caption, Knowles reflected on her granddaughter’s growth over the years, describing her as “a very kind, kind, and humble person” despite her success. (In one of her major milestones, Blue won her first Grammy Award at the age of nine, setting a Guinness World Record as the youngest individual Grammy winner in the process.)
Knowles also revealed the origin of Blue’s name, writing in full:
I remember the day I found out you were in your mother’s womb. I couldn’t be more excited. I was told that you were the size of a blueberry and that’s where your name came from. We prayed together for you every day until you were 12 weeks old in your mother’s womb. Then we prayed individually until you arrived a few months later. It was clear from the beginning that you were a fighter and you talked about it very early on. And you were always smart as a whip. We were always playing with princess dolls and Barbie dolls, and your imagination was incredible. To say I am a proud grandmother would be an understatement. Despite all your achievements and successes, you remain a very kind and humble person. ❤️ To my manager, makeup artist, fashion advisor, and loved ones. Happy birthday ❤️
Although Beyoncé has intentionally tried to keep her three children’s lives as private as possible, she opened up about Blue’s star power in an October 2024 interview with GQ.
“Blue is an artist,” Beyoncé said. “She has great taste in music and fashion. She’s a great editor, a painter, and an actress. She’s been creating characters since she was three years old. She’s a natural, but I don’t like Blue on stage (during the Renaissance Tour). Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow and grow before our eyes.”
Blue was last seen in public last month when she attended a Los Angeles Lakers game with her father, Jay-Z.
