Jesse Buckley has spent years keeping his personal life further out of the spotlight due to his career. The Hamnet star has confirmed that she is married to a man named Freddie, but most of the details about Freddie come from the few times she chose to talk about their relationship in interviews.
Here’s what Buckley had to say about Freddie:
His name is Freddie, but Buckley has not made his last name public.
The New York Times identified Buckley’s husband only as “Freddie” in an August 2025 profile, adding that Buckley “refused to give his last name and age,” according to the article.
During an appearance on the Table Manners podcast in January 2024, Buckley openly identified Freddie as her husband while talking about cooking at home, saying, “One of my favorite dishes is anchovy pasta…Freddie makes it. I’m terrible at making it, but Freddie…my husband…It’s a recipe from the New York Times, just capers, chili peppers, about a pint of oil, large parsley, and garlic.”
They met on a blind date.
Buckley also said of how they met at Table Manners, “We met on a blind date.” She went on to acknowledge that it was founded by music executives who worked with Buckley on Wild Rose, saying, “Mark Robinson founded us.”
Freddie works in the field of mental health.
When asked on Table Manners what Freddie does, Buckley replied, “He works in the mental health field. He went back to college to work in the mental health field.”
She said that Freddie was British.
In the same table manners conversation, Buckley admitted: “He’s British, yes. He’s from Islington.”
Buckley and Freddie were married at their home in Norfolk.
Buckley detailed how he came to Norfolk on Table Manners. “A friend of ours moved to Norfolk and bought this old house for next to nothing at auction…and he showed us this house we live in, and it’s a ramshackle house that looks like it was built in the 1500s…but it’s a really nice old house and it’s going to be there forever.”
Asked if that was the house where they were married, Buckley said, “Yes.”
She shared very specific details of her wedding.
Regarding table manners, Buckley explained that a local cafe called Towpath was part of their special day. “When we started dating, we lived in Dalston so we used to go to Towpath all the time…so they would come and cook meals for us.”
She also said of one of her favorite memories: “One of my favorite memories of that day is that we wanted a barrel of Guinness, but we definitely wanted cheese toast at a certain time.”
Freddie’s career kept him out of the public eye.
In January 2026, British Vogue magazine explicitly determined that Freddie’s privacy was intentional, writing, “Given his profession, his anonymity is of the utmost importance.”
Buckley has spoken publicly about becoming a mother.
In December 2025, Buckley spoke about her early days as a parent on The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast, saying: “Everyone is doing well…everything is different…everything is new. This little human is new. You are new. Your relationship is new. Your whole relationship with the world is new. It’s intense, but I just love you. I love you so much.”
“I can really see her little personality starting to come out. I can feel the life and determination in her, and I hope she loves life as much as I do,” she added.
Buckley previously opened up about her early motherhood in a November 2025 interview with ELLE, saying, “The best part about being a mom is when, even when you’re having a rough day, they give you that out-of-this-world little smile and your heart breaks into pieces and you’re like, ‘Oh, everything’s going to be okay.'”
Buckley added in the same ELLE interview: “My daughter started laughing and making all these silly noises, and I think that’s the funniest, cutest thing in the world.”
